Our societal partners
The project is carried out in close collaboration with a wide range of societal partners, including welfare organizations and experts by experience. Together we strive for a unique connection between research and practice, in which input from our societal partners is also asked during the research phases of the project.
Al Amal
Al Amal is an organization specializing in culturally sensitive work with residents with a migration background. We offer customized services to families, young adults, children, women and men who, for various reasons, are unable to find their way in Dutch society on their own.
We strive for independence and sustainable change. By always standing next to the resident and communicating openly, we manage to gain their trust. If necessary, we work outside the box. We work solution-oriented and take advantage of opportunities that arise.
At Al Amal, we work on the basis of equality, which makes us very accessible to residents. We strive to build a relationship of trust with humor, heart, mind and flexibility. By doing so, we create an approachable environment where the resident feels understood and can communicate openly.

Beroepsvereniging van professionals in sociaal werk
BPSW is the professional association of and for all social workers. Social workers and the BPSW stand for a society in which people are given their due. This means that people can participate and no one is left to their fate. The BPSW strengthens the profession of social work and the professional. We do this by promoting and monitoring quality, facilitating professionalization, further developing the profession and representing the interests of social work as a profession. As an association we offer social workers a platform and network for knowledge sharing and inspiration.

Coalitie Erbij Rotterdam (CER)

Their mission is to collectively break through loneliness and strengthen social cohesion in all neighborhoods of Rotterdam.

Together with partners, we strive for a strong and connected society where everyone counts and can participate.

Municipality of Rotterdam

Municipality of Tilburg

Muncipality Utrecht: healthy city of and for everyone
We want everyone in Utrecht to be able to live healthily, comfortably and independently. Many people in Utrecht are doing well. But there are still large, undesirable differences between residents in terms of income, health and the ability to develop or participate. Where necessary, we provide appropriate care and support, but we do this increasingly in addition to what people organize themselves and with each other. The increase in forms of community power is an important development that we continue to encourage. This will enable residents to solve more questions together in ‘normal’ life. With ‘Utrecht Omarmt’ we have a strong network of 120 organizations that feel connected to the theme of loneliness. The network inspires, strengthens cooperation and stimulates knowledge sharing.

Inclusia
We are a foundation committed to a society where everyone has a place. Where everyone gets opportunities and receives support when needed. We support, advise, train and empower people, organizations and governments to work together to create a more inclusive society. Experiental expertise is at the core of our organization. Everything we develop and implement comes about with and by the target groups for which it is intended.

Indigo Preventie
Indigo preventie prevents mental and addiction problems. We do this by strengthening mental health, and by increasing resilience and resistance. We focus on increasing knowledge and skills.
We are there for young and old; in the neighborhood, close to the people. We focus specifically on groups of people who have a higher risk of developing mental health problems. Elderly people with a migration background are one such group. Indigo is optimistic and believes that if you catch it in time, you can do a lot yourself to get a grip on life (again).

Leyden Academy
Leyden Academy on Vitality and Ageing is a knowledge institute whose mission is to improve the quality of life of older people. Based on this mission, we conduct scientific research on a variety of topics focused on vitality and aging. They are also involved in various practical projects and programs, develop blueprints, tools and training packages. We believe it is important that the knowledge gained finds its way to policy makers, care providers and the general public, so that together we can contribute to a better society for the elderly.

We support, advise and work together with social organizations, governments, socially involved companies and citizen initiatives. Locally or nationally and tailored to the issue and to the organization.

Nieuwwij.nl
Nieuwwij.nl is the leading platform for philosophical and cultural diversity in the Netherlands. Nieuw Wij does this by identifying current social developments and asking the right questions. Nieuw Wij is committed to a values-driven democratic society, in which differences are respected and a connecting attitude among citizens is promoted.
Nieuw Wij also has a connection to science. Since 2023, Prof. Dr. Manuela Kalsky holds the Karen Armstrong Chair in Religion, Values and Social Transformations at the University of Humanistic Studies.

NOOM
NOOM has been working since 2007, to promote the interests of vulnerable older migrants in the Netherlands. On the one hand by making them self-reliant with the help of their confidants, on the other hand by providing general institutions with information about their culture and how to reach this target group to find out about their wishes and needs. It is unfair how especially the first generation Turks and Moroccans now have to live in pure poverty, while they built up the Netherlands economically in the sixties. In particular, the consequences such as loneliness and stress, as well as delaying care are disastrous. Together with elderly organizations, NOOM is trying to do something about this.

Ohran & Partners

Pharos
The national expertise center Pharos contributes to reducing major health disparities. We do this by collecting, enriching and sharing (inter)national knowledge. This is scientific knowledge, practical knowledge of health care providers, policy makers and experts by experience. We believe that everyone in the Netherlands should have equal opportunities for health, for preventing health problems and for accessing the right care when problems do arise. But in practice there are big differences. Differences that are avoidable and that we can and must reduce. We are therefore driven to increase equal opportunity for health and reduce health disparities.

ProFor
The mission of ProFor is to help residents address and resolve their issues related to socio-economic disadvantage and to support their participation in Dutch society. These disadvantages concern health, financial situation, language, and communication with institutions. The vision behind this is that tackling these challenges is the responsibility of the help-seeker. ProFor’s role is to assist, advise, and encourage from a positive perspective. Help-seekers greatly appreciate this approach and quickly regain control without lengthy and time-consuming processes. Additionally, training sessions and informational meetings are provided.

SKIN Rotterdam
Samen Kerk in Nederland (SKIN) Rotterdam is a foundation created for and by Christian international communities in Rotterdam and its surroundings. SKIN builds bridges between international and native churches, the government, and social organizations. The goal is to be a strong and positive voice within Rotterdam’s society and beyond. SKIN was founded in 2007 by pastors who joined forces with a focus on “stable organizations” and “healthy families.” Due to increasing loneliness, the demand for culturally specific care is growing, as elderly people with a migration background experience care differently. In collaboration with care facilities, SKIN-Rotterdam works to bridge the gap between formal and informal care.

Stichting Attifa
Attifa provides support to migrant seniors and the growing group of (former) refugees and their caregivers. The foundation has existed for 10 years and originated from the migrant community. Over time, Attifa has built a strong reputation and is becoming increasingly well-known among migrant seniors and their families. The staff, volunteers, and interns of Attifa have a deep connection with these seniors in the neighborhoods of Utrecht. As a foundation, Attifa is regarded as reliable, knowledgeable, and above all, deeply involved. Because of this, we have strong connections within our target group.

Stichting Pelita
The Netherlands is home to an estimated two million people with a background in former Dutch East Indies and Indonesia. Since 1947, Stichting Pelita has been dedicated to supporting elderly individuals with this background. We offer various services tailored to the cultural and historical backgrounds of our elderly, such as guidance in accessing social services and assistance with applications for laws concerning war victims. To combat social isolation, Pelita organizes nationwide gatherings featuring music, food, and information. These events also provide an opportunity for Pelita staff to identify and address support needs, such as questions about the Social Support Act (WMO) or laws for war victims. UP! Nederland
UP! encourages elderly individuals to share their stories to reduce feelings of emotional loneliness and enhance self-reliance. Those who understand themselves better often develop more perspective and compassion toward their own actions and those of others.
More than 14,000 seniors, including many with a migration background, have participated in group discussions. Under the guidance of a trained (volunteer) facilitator from UP!, these sessions address challenging topics. Older migrant engage in these conversations in their native language, and UP! has now trained facilitators in 12 languages.
The elderly express themselves, explore their strengths, and share their life experiences. Impact research shows that this approach works—seniors become more self-aware, courageous, and active.
