Article by Stichting Omroep Organisatie Groningen about loneliness among migrants

In a recent article by Stichting Omroep Organisatie Groningen (OOG TV), Professor Basak Bilecen, a researcher within the PROMISE project, discusses the connection between loneliness and migration. As Bilecen explains, loneliness isn’t simply about being alone; it is more about unfulfilled expectations in relationships. When close family members and friends live abroad, these relationships can change or fade over time. Expectations about family obligations or support can sometimes not be fulfilled anymore because you live in different countries, which can contribute to feelings of loneliness.

Afsaneh, who is originally from Iran, shares her experiences of loneliness in the Netherlands. She reflects on how her relationship with family back home has changed over the years and what she experienced upon first arriving in the Netherlands.
